OvrC Enhancement: Device Connection Relationships

With Device Connection Relationships, OvrC now empowers integrators with a comprehensive and intuitive way to visualize and manage device connections throughout their power and network setup. This enhancement brings significant improvements to troubleshooting, device management, and sets the stage for even smarter automation in the future.

What Are Device Connection Relationships?

Device Connection Relationships allows integrators to map both power and network connections for supported Araknis, WattBox, and Pakedge devices. By defining which outlet or switch port a device is connected to, integrators can:

  • Troubleshoot and resolve issues faster.
  • Reboot devices directly from their page.
  • View the status of the upstream device, all without navigating through multiple device pages.
  • Easily jump to the connected device without having to return to the device list page and re-navigate to the device in question.

This results in accurate connection mapping, streamlined workflows, and lays the foundation for additional capabilities moving forward.

MacBlurred 1.png

How It Works

OvrC tracks and displays two types of connections for each device:

  1. Power Connections: Shows which WattBox outlet a device is plugged into. You can quickly see the upstream device’s health and power cycle the downstream device with one click.
  1. Network Connections: Shows which switch and port a device is connected to. You can view the upstream device’s status and perform network troubleshooting actions. For PoE-powered devices on supported Araknis or Pakedge switches, you can also toggle PoE on the mapped port to reboot the device.

On new Araknis X20 switches, these relationships are automatically mapped using traffic analysis and MAC address tracking; no manual setup required. For legacy switches (like Araknis X10 and Pakedge MS) or others), integrators can manually define these relationships for full visibility.

Once mapped, these relationships appear directly on the device’s page, making troubleshooting and control actions fast and intuitive.

Why This Matters

  • Accurate Mapping: No more guessing or digging through multiple pages to find how devices are connected. OvrC now surfaces the exact upstream power or switch port right on the device page, directly addressing a top dealer frustration: having to leave a device page and dig through multiple WattBoxes just to power cycle it.
  • Faster Troubleshooting: Instantly see and act on upstream/downstream status.
  • Future-Ready: Lays the groundwork for upcoming smart automation features.
