OvrC Adds Rooms and Network Health

To start the new year, we have made some exciting new changes to OvrC, including the ability to create Rooms, Network Health, and other improvements.

Introduction of Rooms

Navigating and finding specific devices or groups of devices on a network can be challenging, especially with the increasing number of devices being connected. OvrC has introduced the Rooms feature to address this issue, which allows for better organization and efficient navigation by grouping devices together. As seen with early testers, this can be applied in various ways, such as grouping devices by buildings, floors, or spaces. Additionally, the Rooms feature also facilitates faster troubleshooting.

New Device List

Along with the Rooms feature, we have also improved the device list to provide better functionality. The new table layout provides lots of new functionalities:

  • Bulk actions – You can now select multiple devices and toggle the monitoring bell, move to room, or delete.
  • Improved search – The search function now scans all information (including MAC address) giving you faster, more accurate results.
  • Downloadable list – Download the entire device list from OvrC as a .csv file for use in other applications
  • Group by and Filter – These tools allow you to quickly narrow down you search and focus on what’s important at that moment
  • Customizable columns – Hide/show any column, resize, or move columns to how you would like to see the information, the power is in your hands.

To learn more about Rooms and Device List, please visit the Snap One Tech Community.

Network Health

Previously known as Internet Speed Test, Network Health has been changed on the Location Dashboard to provide more information. Speed tests alone cannot provide enough information to determine if a customer’s network is running as expected. OvrC now measures latency, or response time, for the internet and local network separately.

  • Wide Area Network (WAN) Latency – Measures the response time to an IP address or URL outside the location. This can be used to monitor changes in internet speeds and response times by the internet service and can be run as often as hourly
  • Local Area Network (LAN) Latency - Measures the response time to a device in the location and can indicate when there is an issue within the local network. This too can be run as often as once an hour.
  • Speed tests – With the addition of the above tools, automatic speed tests can only be performed once every 24 hours or with manual tests able to happen at will.

In preparation for this feature, we have proactively configured these settings on existing locations. This means that Network Health should already be working in your locations without any action needed by you.

  • WAN latency target is set to 8.8.8.8
  • LAN latency target device has been set
  • Automatic speed tests (if enabled) have been reduced to run every 24 hours

All OvrC Pro locations have already been configured to use 8.8.8.8 as the target for measuring WAN latency as well as a target device has been selected for measuring LAN latency. Additionally, changes to speed test frequency have also been applied.

Fixes and other improvements

With this update we have addressed some underlying bugs within OvrC

  • Combined the Hide and Delete actions to now only having Delete
  • Eliminated the duplicated device list after hiding or deleting devices
  • Improved accuracy of device state by refreshing data more frequently

As always, we continue to evolve our product based on your feedback. Please continue to provide your thoughts and ideas to [email protected] or through the user feedback section of the web and mobile applications. Thanks!
