OvrC Releases Improved Navigation for Mobile Devices

In response to your feedback – THANK YOU!! – we are excited to announce the next round of improvements for the OvrC mobile application. We heard you loud and clear that the new device list was more difficult to navigate and was missing some key functionality that required extra clicks to perform common actions like Reboot and Update firmware.

With this release, we have added an optional “card view” within the device list. This expands on the “grid view” that was released earlier this year. The advantage of the card view is that it’s showing each device’s important information in a card and surfacing quick action buttons for rebooting a device or initiating an update if available. The grid view is still available to perform bulk actions like setting the monitoring bell, deleting a device or assigning devices to a room. The combination of the two views provides easy readability as well as power-user features in the palm of your hand. Make sure to update your mobile application to benefit from this new look.

One item to note, the monitoring bell is now informational on the device list and toggling the state can being done from the grid view or in the device details page. This was done based on feedback that the device bell states are rarely changed after initial configuration but seeing the information was still important.

OvrC AMA: Honest Answers to Tough Questions

Does Snap One plan on charging for OvrC in the future?

Why does OvrC it say devices are offline when they are not?

And Why move local configurations to OvrC?

Those are some of the questions we address in our first-ever Ask Me Anything (AMA) Session.

Answering questions today, we have:

  • Evan Marty, Director of Product Management for OvrC
  • Kenny Kim, VP of Product Management for Platforms & Services

Our mission here is to build trust and to offer some transparency, as we answer questions and respond to feedback that was submitted via our AMA form. We also plucked some questions directly from integrator forums.

A Great Responsibility: Snap One Invests in Cloud as OvrC Becomes More Essential

Questions/Feedback Addressed in the AMA Video Above:

  1. It feels like Snap is forcing reliance on OvrC. Whats the deal?
  1. Does Snap One have plans to charge Partners for OvrC?
  1. Does anyone on the Snap One Product Team have experience as an integrator, guys who have field experience?
  1. OvrC could be great but it tends to be slower, more convoluted, and less reliable than some of its competitors. I dont hate it by any means and it is very useful for the things I use it for.
  1. Why does OvrC it say things are offline when they are not?
  1. MoIP configuration and management via OvrC is not as easy, powerful, or quick as it was with direct management of the MoIP controller. Again, I dont hate OvrC, its very useful, but Im not happy about the loss of local configuration and management since the latest Binary MoIP update.
  1. OvrC is working pretty well for us, especially with Parasol helping out with support calls. Sometimes it can be a pain in the a**, but most integration work is. Anyways, I read that you plan to make OvrC more of a CRM tool? What does that mean in terms of future features?
  1. Its got some hiccups, but generally OvrC is an incredibly useful tool, especially since we started using Parasol. I think a lot of other integrators arent up to speed on the best practices and trainings (it is hard to keep up). What is the best way to keep up-to-date about OvrC changes and also whats the best way to train new people on OvrC.
  1. Why is the network switch unable to tell which port connects to which MAC address?
  1. Can you please enable notification on Limited status? It seems to indicate that Episode amps are about to give up on life and need a reboot.
  1. Do you have plans to develop client-facing reports that can be generated on a weekly/monthly/quarterly basis and exported to Excel or PDF.
  1. The interface gets very cluttered when you have a job with lots of temporary roaming devices (holiday rental homes). It keeps a record of every MAC and IP of each device connected. We have to clear it down every few months for some sites. Maybe a way to specify an IP range to ignore?

Questions we received but answered offline for sake of time (see Tech Community):

  1. Why is it that, more often than not, I cannot connect to the On-site Router using Web Connect?
  1. Any possibility of adding a VPN feature?
  1. Would be nice if you can run intensive monitoring for a device that would run a constant ping test (every second) for a set period of time (eg 10 minutes).
  1. When all devices for a site go offline it should send one notification for site offline rather than multiple ones for each device.
  1. How can we lockout non-certified technicians from being able to run Control4 updates thru OvrC?
